The Masterplan of Herencia de Allende®, developed by the prestigious Urbanist Leon Krier with architects Pedro Pablo Godoy and Mª Fernanda Sanchez of the firm Estudio Urbano, proposes the reconstruction of the sustainable community: open, mixed-use, designed at human scale and, reinforcing the spirit of the place with San Miguel de Allende´s character.

Five urban Barrios within a total área of 320 hectares tend to the daily needs of its inhabitants within 10 minutes walking. More than 160 hectares of parks, gardens and rural districts provide a long and desired experience of life in the countryside.

Leon Krier The mind behind the design

He is a world-renowned architect, urban planner and architectural theorist, pioneer in promoting the technological, ecological and social rationality and modernity of traditional urbanism and architecture. Krier combines an international architecture & planning practice with writing and a selective teaching career, v.g. professor at the Architectural Association and the Royal College of Art in London, Princeton University, the University of Virginia, Yale University. Since 1987 he is H. R. H. the Prince of Wales’ advisor, and he is considered the godfather of the New Urbanism movement.

Two of his Masterplanning projects to highlight:

  • New Town of Poundbury in the United Kingdom. Dorchester’s urban extension on land of the Duchy of Cornwallby Commision of H.R.H The Prince of Wales

  • Cayalá, a new city within Guatemala City. With more than 200 hectares consisting of single- family homes, apartments, offices, shops, events and convention center, cinema and a basilic, Cayalá has received multiple international awards.

Estudio Urbano

ESTUDIO URBANO is an architecture, design and urban planning firm and network based in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Founded in 2001, Estudio Urbano was established by Pedro Godoy and María Sánchez, as an incubator of traditional architecture and urbanism. Both, together with their team of collaborators, apply traditional principles of beauty, firmness and utility to design responding to the place and the demands of modern life. Estudio Urbano creates architecture and cities that are sustainable and contribute to the wellbeing of all people, thus encouraging a society made up of prosperous communities.

María Fernanda Sánchez

Architect, Master in Urbanism

She studied Architecture at the Francisco Marroquin University, later obtained a master’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and Rome, with a concentration in urban design and classical studies. She received the Ferguson, Shamammian and Rattner Graduate Prize at the University of Notre Dame.

Maria Fernanda Sanchez is the director of the Estudio Urbano firm in Guatemala, which specializes in urban design, traditional architecture and landscaping. She has been awarded various awards and recognitions for her excellence in urban and architectural design. As an international consultant, has worked in Italy, the United States, Ecuador and Guatemala and participated as a luxury home designer with the South Bay Developers Firm in Key Biscayne and in the Guayaquil area in Ecuador.
